"Changing the destiny of the destitute"
|
|
We are volunteers - members and supporters of Ameri-Asia Charities, Inc., a non-profit organization.
We envision that each child that can be rescued from a life of despair, drugs, thievery, and ignorance can become an adult with purpose and success, living within the realms of the law.

Dolly Mukherjee teaching a class of alert children. We teach them languages (basic English and Bengali), reading/writing skills, mathematics, personal hygiene, and to respect each other and all people, regardless of gender. Literacy will be a definite asset to these young people as they grow up and marry, seeking employment to sustain themselves and their families, and striving to overcome poverty.

Girls will often become married while still in their young teens to nearly illiterate spouses. They can come into their marriage with an important asset - literacy. Likewise, boys can come into their marriages with the added asset of being literate, thereby having an advantage finding better paying jobs to support their new families.

We are not a religious organization – and we do not proselytize. But whether the children are Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, or Christian, etc., we respect their right to worship God as they wish. We do promote self-respect, equality, and tolerance for others and their differences.

|
Though our contributions were flowing privately to India in previous years, beginning 01 Jan 2004 we became organized as a charitable organization, in the hopes of encouraging others to donate to this worthy cause.
We are now an incorporated organization, determined by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. Contributions to our organization are tax deductible under Section 170 of the IRC.
